Homecoming - September 16, 2011
The Band Room is a busy place before the Homecoming Parade.
The Band members getting into their uniforms for the first time this year.
A few had problems trying to figure out how to get into their uniform.
Hmmm. This uniform looks like someone needs some help!

Several alumni joined us on the Alumni Association Homecoming Float.
Front - 2002-2004 Association President Nancy Hardy Smith '50;
in the red shirt - Ray Pendell '46;
in the brown WHS jacket - '64 alum David McManus; and in the print shirt Michael Dane '88.

We also had two younger alums join us just before the parade stepped off. They also had their year-old daughter along who thoroughly enjoyed the parade.

The alumni threw candy to the kids along the parade route. Most were prepared as they were waiting with bags!

Joining the parade this year - Fred Kaiser with his wife and 1957 alum - Beverly Pruden Kaiser in their '57 Chevy!
What a fun addition to the parade - and it is the right color also!!!

More Westgate family came out to watch the parade.

Many 'Westgaters came out to watch. The band played the entire parade route.
This couple had to be West alums. They were so happy to see us - and take our picture!
We can always count on the team to greet us behind the stadium.
This young man even climbed up the fence to try to get a better look - and some candy!

The team in on the field for their pre-game warmup. The 2011 West Cheerleaders and Band have just entered the stadium!.
Following them down the alley to make their entrance -
WHAMBA - the West High Alumni Band.
The Alumni Band is being led by former drum majors Matt Berndsen '08 and Brad Laver '75!
Many game attendees were leaning over the top row of the Magly Field stadium to watch the Alumni Band and cheer them on.
Former Majorettes, Drum Majors, and Weskets proudly make their way to the stadium.
The Alumni Band marches smartly down to the stadium. Most have the official Alumni Band uniforms on - white pants and Alumni Band shirts.
Several are wearing their school Jackets!
The WHAMBA members look forward to this night all year long!
They made their way into the stadium - to the cheers of the game attendees.

They all enter the field following the OSU tradition with a 'ramp-style' entrance.

Many alumni stopped by to say hello and purchase alumni logo items. A few yearbooks were even sold! Because it was a cooler evening, Nancy sold several Alumni sweatshirts!
 
The Boosters tent also gets a lot of visitors who purchase their logo items.

Three minutes left in the 3rd quarter - West 49 and South 6! West ended with a big win. What a great Homecoming Game!

10/29/11 update:

West quarterback Chris Rhodes was leading the central Ohio schools in passing yards halfway through the season.
On October 28, in his last game of the regular season, he had 474 total offensive yards in their victory over host Briggs.
At one point, West was trailing 34-22. West scored on a 6 -yard run with just 19 seconds left in the game to get West the 44-40 win over rival Briggs.
West has a winning season with a record of 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the City League South Division.

Congratulations Cowboys!
