2009 Hilltop Bean Dinner - Westgate Park
American Legion Post 4044 posts the colors.
The Invocation was given by Rev. Rick Hannah from Emanual Baptist Church.
Next up was the West High Alumni Band who entertained the Bean Dinner attendees with several songs.
They began with the OSU Fight Song!

They next played Hail the Buff and Brown!

They played the West High Fight Song. Brian Finley '69 recognized the former Band Director Mr. Jim Hill '49 who died April 10. He inspired many of his students to pursue music as a career, converted the West Band to an all brass band, and took the band to the Rose Bowl Parade in 1969. Mr. Hill also started a Dance Band and the Weskets.

The Alumni Band closed with the West Alma Mater.

2009 Alumni Association President, Susie Katon Ward '70, invited the 2009 Alumni Scholarship winners to attend the Bean Dinner and be recognized by the attendees. Although non were able to attend, Susie read the names of the scholarship winners.

The Hilltop Historical Society had a great display of pictures and memorabilia.
When we were there the tent was being 'manned' by our own Stanton Prior '46.

We just had to take a few pictures of the vehicles in the car show.

There were some pretty sharp vehicles in the show in the various categories.
It was a great weather day, but some still found some shade to enjoy their afternoon in.
You just have to put the hood up so everyone can check it out!
A very pretty park area in Westgate Park.
The large 'eating tent' was filled with people
all day long.
Some of the food tents.
A description of the sketch below.
A draft sketch of a mural that will be installed near the tennis courts at the park.
The G.H.A.L.A. (Greater Hilltop Area League for the Arts) tent. Several West alumni and at least one retired teacher, Mr. Jerry Ocock, are members of the group. Mr. Ocock was 'manning' the table when we were there.
The Boy Scouts had tents 'all over the place.'
One of the Scouts tries out the Obstacle course.
A great play area filled with blown-up things to play on was set up for the kids.
A tent for face painting and other kids activities was set up near the kids play area.
In the kids play area a Balloon guy made many different kinds of balloon animals for the little ones.
The kids all wanted one of the balloon animals.
The beautiful Westgate Park fountain.
A few were even fishing in the pond.
The Alumni Association tent was all set up with our logo items to sell.
We passed out many Alumni Occident newsletters to let alumni know about our Association.
After the 2009 Bean Dinner we have more alumni wearing our Alumni logo items, including our new ladies visor, note pad, and men's ball cap that we had for sale for the first time.
The new items are shown in the website Alumni Store.
